Flarewing-S: First Deployment
Earlier this month we deployed a Flarewing-S for the first time. Here is the video where the Flarewing-S is deploying using the actively driven deployment and structural cable.
We wanted to share it as is instead of waiting for something cleaner. We rigged it to our first gravity off-loader and had engineers standing by the whole time, in case anything snagged, but nothing snagged and it worked nearly perfectly! The structure opened to the design 6.2 meters long, with 12 square meters of deployed area, flaring the way we designed it to.
This was filmed in our new HQ at Industry City in Brooklyn. We're still building it out, but by the time we're done we'll have manufacturing and environmental test capability under the same roof, so we can go from a sketch to a qualified structure.
We have an incredible team of engineers that work hard and put this new design together in less than 2-months.
